I finally got done with the little booties to match this dress. Both the dress and booties can be custom order through the website if interested. Thanks.

My first completed Reborn Baby (Photo Shoot)
Two months ago I finished Lilly By Denise Pratt. Lilly is now Adriana. She was a challenge since I am still very new to reborning but oh so much fun to watch each layer of paint change her from a vinyl doll to something that looks so real.
How this all started: I was in the process of looking on the internet one day for cloth doll patterns and came across a doll that looked so life like it was actually scary but sparked my curiosity. They had called this a Reborn Baby. So I decided to do a search on reborn dolls. Holy Moly I couldn't believe my eyes with what I was seeing. Incredible. I thought, I would love to have one. Again more research and found these beautiful dolls to be pricey. (Now understand why) I decided to look into the process and see how much a kit would be. Low and behold kits were not that expensive. Which led me onto my next research. Paint.
A lot of the reborn babies I came across were painted with Genesis heat set paints. These paints are painted on and then heated in an oven that looks more like a UFO than an oven lol. But, I feared all the horror stories that I had read on the internet of melting babies. So I dug deeper with my research and found some beautiful babies created with Air Dry Paints and again read some cons to using this paint as well. After going back and forth with my decision on what paints to use I decided on Air Dry.
It took me literally 9 months to create Adriana lol. Being my worst critic and having OCD on top of it the painting process was horrible. I had stripped poor Adriana 3 times and I guess the third time was a charm. But....I am very disappointed in Air Dry paints. Poor Adriana's paint is peeling in areas. :( Every time I put a new outfit on her...More paint is disappearing.
Now for her hair. She was rooted with a 42g Forked Needle. Again more research on all the different types of needles and mohair YIKES talk about confusing. I decided then to search on pictures of reborn babies done with the different types of needles and found the 42g Forked Needle to be what I wanted. With me being my worse critic, the rooting process was very disappointing. As you see in these pictures, she has orangy/yellow hair (EEK) and is quite frizzy. The color is supposed to be Honey Blonde and the mohair bunched together is a beautiful color but when it got on the head....different story. So I decided to pull each hair out and start over. I am some what happy with the rooting but the color I still have a problem with.
So until I get my two other kits that I have purchased done, I will enjoy Adriana and take all that I did with her as a wonderful learning tool. She will in the near future be totally redone. This time with Genesis Heat Set Paints and a high quality Mohair. :)
Here are some pictures of Adriana in her new little outfit that I made for her. I am in the process of working on a Shyann by Aleina Peterson. I am using heat set paints and bought the UFO looking oven. I am so very happy with how Shyann is turning out and I think she will be finished way before Adriana was.
None of the Reborns you see here are for sale. They are for my own collection. Thank You and hope you enjoy the pictures.
I will be posting pictures of Shyann as a Work In Progress.
Vicki :)
