Reborn Painting Tutorial - Part III - Warming Up Skin Tone

Time to give this little guy some warmth to his skin tone.

For this tutorial I will be using the following:

Odorless Thinner
Genesis Heat Set Paints (I will start abbreviating GHSP)
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Umber
Cosmetic Wedge for pouncing and blending the paint
Brushes to help pounce and blend the paint into the creases.
Bowl for mixing the paint

Supplies

Yellow Ochre and Burnt Umber used to create the warmth

Equal amounts

Add your odorless thinner and mix. You want this mix thin.
I used about 6 dropper fulls of odorless thinner.

Little Tanner before adding any warmth to the skin tone.

Warmth added to the head only. Slight difference from the head and arm.

You apply this mix of paints the same way as the skin layers from the first tutorial. I use my brush and brush it on all over. Including inside the nose. I then take my cosmetic wedge sponge and pounce the paint until it is blended and no brush strokes can be seen. I make sure to get really good into the creases with my wedge and brushes. Pounce (dab) and pounce. During this process, your cosmetic wedge may become saturated with the paint that you had applied to the parts. When this happens take your sponge and squeeze into your paper towel and proceed on with pouncing. You don't want any pooling in the creases nor do you want to see any brush strokes from your brush.

Here you can see I have applied the paint with a brush to the hand. See where the paint has pooled in the creases. This is when you take your cosmetic sponge and pounce, dab the paint until the creases are clean and blended.

Apply this mix to all the parts.
Here are the limbs done with one layer of warmth.
Can see a slight difference in skin tone. I will be adding another layer.

For this particular wash I will not bake in between layers. I will keep applying after the parts have all flashed (paint thinner has evaporated) and will apply another layer.

Here is Tanner with two layers of warmth. I am going to stop with the second layer. I am happy with the tone. If you feel the tone on your sculpt is not to your liking add another layer. Keep adding until you feel the color is to your satisfaction.
Two Layers of Warmth

Perfect. See how adding the warmth brings out the subtle mottling layer

Now I will bake at 250 degrees for 7 minutes.

Next will be adding shading and depth to the little creases :)

Feel free to ask questions or leave comments :)

Happy Reborning!
